A. Description of Location and Subpopulation
Community/Location: I have chosen my local community of Coles County, Illinois for my focus
area. Coles County is a rural community in Illinois where I currently reside and live. Some main
indights from reviewing the data ate that coles county has high poverty rates. “The poverty rate
in Coles County, Illinois is 57.14% higher than the US average. In Coles County, Illinois, an
estimated 19.8% of 43,948 people live in poverty. In the United States, 12.6% of 321,897,703
people live in poverty.” Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System (2021).
Subpopulation: The subpopulation that I am choosing to focus on is the elderly with in my
community. In Coles county 17.8% of people are over the age of 65 and more specifically 15.6%
are over the age of 75 (United States Census Bureau, n.d.). I am focusing on them as they are
underserved population.
